I'M BAAAAAAAACK!
Feb 5 Update: Miss Nala has returned to rescue through no fault of her own. She is a perfect girl and was loved by her adopter, but some critical changes came up and a heart-broken adopter made the decision to let her find a better forever home. Nala is an 8 (our best estimate) year old boxer mix, that was found roaming the streets of South Carolina. With the help of a TON of amazing people, we were able to transport her up to Minnesota, to be cared for and loved on, nursing her sweet soul back to health! When she first arrived, she was SUPER timid - calm, gentle but obviously shy and unsure of what was happening. With time (she’ s been with me since October 13th), she’s REALLY come out of her shell. She is 43 pounds, and has a full tail! She’s PERFECTLY healthy when it comes to weight, and stature! She’s heartworm positive, which is super sad but TREATABLE. It’s not contagious - it’s spread through infected mosquito bites and prevalent in the southern states. She’s already started her treatment, which is going to last until around early March. During her treatment, she’s got to be restricted on activity - meaning just no running, jumping, or trotting around. She is SO calm and gentle, that it’s been quite easy to ensure she’s not too active. What CAN happen, with too much activity (and blood flow through the heart, where the heartworms reside - in the blood!), as the heart worms die off, they run the risk of breaking off + blocking blood flow, which could lead to death. So keeping her calm is KEY! She’s also got something called entropion - it’s where her eyelashes are growing inverted, and rubbing against her eyeballs. She’s on drops, and once she’s clear of heartworm, we can get her surgery to correct this, so she’s MUCH more comfortable. Right now, her eyes have cleared up a LOT - and I am happy to report she’s not as bothered by them! Nala is available through foster-to-adopt program, should you know anyone out there looking for the sweetest babe to be in their lives! What this means is that if someone is interested in adopting her, they can apply to both foster AND adopt, and if they’re a good candidate, they can take her now while she’s receiving treatment + healing at the cost of our rescue. Once she’s cleared up, the OFFICIAL adoption can begin. We think this is an AWESOME option, to get her into her forever home as soon as possible, so she can be comfortable, know how LOVED she is, and she can really heal with your love. She’s AWESOME with other animals, including cats. She seems interested in playing with all animals, and it’s always gentle and kind. She is a GREAT eater, and I’ve even hand fed her. SO GENTLE. She’s an absolute gem to have around. I already adore her, but I KNOW someone out there needs her, and she needs you! Contact us now if you’re curious about sweet Nala, and if you want to begin the process of foster to adopt this amazing girl!
