Hey there, my name is Max, my foster mom calls me Maxiums, I’m not sure why but I like it. I came here from North Carolina and I have to say that it is much cooler here than where I was. I am so happy to be here. I was told I had to tell everyone about myself, well, I am a big boy and I am not full boxer but I have a lot of boxer in me, at least that is what my foster mom says. I love walks, sometimes I pull, and my foster mom does not like it, I just get sooooo excited for them. I love food also and I have been told I can only have what I get and a few treats, no more. That was a bummer to learn. I also love to drink water, so I only get so much right now. At least until they find out why. I do well with my foster fur brother, he is smaller than me by almost half. However, I do play with him occasionally and mom will tell us that we are done when I get too much. You see I run into things sometimes, mom thinks that I have limited sight in my left eye, so I don’t see that well on that side. When I get excited, I will run into the table, the wall or a door if I turn to the left. I also have moved away from my foster mom’s hand when she has gone to pet me on that side, so I like it when I have things come towards me on my right side. I am not aggressive though; I just move back till I can see what it is. I also have trouble with stairs as I am not as strong in my right front and back leg. I go down really carefully, but when I go up and I am excited or tired, it can be a problem. Foster mom will walk behind me to make sure I get all the way up; I have slid down a few stairs a couple of times and she has had to rescue me. I can’t wait to find my forever family!
Max’s foster mom here: Max is one happy and laid-back boy. He has been going in the kennel nicely when I leave for work. Only the first couple of times did he have to be led in and bark once I was almost out the door. Now he will go in his kennel to just lay down. He eats really fast, so I feed him a ½ cup of food at a time and for water I do the same. I am also keeping him to a limited amount of water so that he does not over drink or drink too fast. He has done that, and projectile vomited in the house. With his limited mobility due more to strength, than weight, he has a hard time getting into an SUV. I have a ramp that I am working on him using but his limited sight makes this scary for him too. As he mentioned stairs can be an issue. I have him on a joint supplement and that is helping with his mobility, but he is still weak on one side. Ideally, he would love a home with limited stairs or limited amounts of time up and down them. He loves children and has no issues with any adults that I have found. He has met the neighbors and been fine. I have a neighbor boy who will walk him for me when I am at work for 8 hours. He does also like antlers and has found the one I had, so I bought him his own. Max will have a vet appointment on August 13th, so we will see what is going on with him. Right now, we try and walk three times a day for ½ a mile at a time, so not to wear him out. He does love to walk and will initially pull with me, not the neighbor boy though, and as we get into the walk he will stop and walk nicely until he see something that interests him. I am working on “leave it” and “heel” with him and he is starting to understand. He was someone’s pet and trained once. The only last things that I would mention is that he will look at you with the left side a lot and it can look like he is pulling his lip back, but he is not. He has not bit me or nipped at me when I give food or water or play with the antler while he is chewing on it. He does get excited when getting treats so his whole mouth will come at your hand but not bit down. He will stop before he does that. It is also really hard for him to sit and then get up so he will not sit for treats. After seeing this the first time I have stopped making him sit because he will slip on some surfaces as he tries to get up or he will collapse just from trying to put weight on that right side. He has been a really good boy and is housetrained. He will be a great addition to someone who is somewhat active and has lots of love to give.
