*DEAF*
From the foster mom: Sadie is very timid at first and reluctant to cuddle up but once she knows it's ok, she loves to be cuddled! She is a velcro dog. Deaf dogs need to see you to look for visuals and to remain comfortable in their new surroundings and she is no exception. She will bark when in her area if she cannot see you, she will bark every time if you go back and forth if she catches a glimpse of you. She will stop barking and go lay in her kennel once she realizes you aren't coming back in sight. Deaf dogs are heavy sleepers and it's best to softly touch them when waking them up...or sometimes I lightly stomp of the floor. The vibrations help them know someone is there. Also when approaching her...I smile, and do a wave. Thumbs up means good girl, and normal hand commands one might use for sit, stay and lay down (I always throw some other signs in I know for deaf dogs) but to each their own. She is VERY treat motivated and know's sit, shake, and stay. I gave her a bath already, and I'm sure she'll get another at the vet. She did well in the tub. She has had zero potty accidents in the house. She does enjoy someone outside with her(probably cause it's still new) but will go in and out one her own in my fenced yard. She does ok with the kids, but it's good to keep an eye on her when she's around kids -- deaf dogs (at least the one's I've had here) seem to paw more than my hearing dogs, and they are face level to kids and can hurt them if it's unexpected. I feed her 4 times a day. 1 cup about every 4 hours. Im not sure if that's a lot, but she's on the skinny side, and it not disagreeing with her. Over all she's a very nice boxer girl.
