Mimzee
Being a small dog (Dachshund) Mom for as long as I can remember, I was never looking to adopt a big dog. I happened to see Mimzee's picture on the Rescue site and immediately knew we had to adopt her. I was out of my comfort zone but somehow I knew she had to belong to our family. At the time, our dog family consisted of Maggie (Doxie) and Mario (Doxie) and with Mimzee I told my husband, "they will be the three musketeers - three "M's" - it was meant to be. When Jody brought her to our house for the first meet and greet, I sat on the floor with MiMi and she let me hug her. I felt so much love from her. I didn't know how long we would have with her, but we were committed to giving her the most fun end-of-life time she could imagine. We went on walks, she chased balls, went to the parks, she did zoomies in the yard, chased my Doxies and then slept next to us after all her activities. She loved car rides, would stick her head out the window and I would watch her smile while the wind flapped in her face. When I would get home from work she would "talk" to me, do circles and was so excited. She was the best Boxer I could have ever found, such a sweet girl with a gentle heart. It breaks our hearts that she is gone, but we got to be a part of her life for 18 months. I will love you forever Mimi, and we miss you every day. Run happy my girl.

Jewel
All dogs have a distinct personality. Jewel's was being reserved and self-contained. She slept a lot. She didn't jump or bark or chase a ball; she was a "senior" dog (on hospice, with cancer). When I first brought her into the house last November, I started to put her on my bed at night but it took a few weeks before she was comfortable enough to spend the night there...even then she curled up away from me. You could pet her but after a few minutes she would get up and move out of reach. It took more time before she would even lay near me at night. Finally one night she got up and curled up hard against me and fell asleep...and snored. She finally knew she was home. Jewel was so very loved right up to her last breath.

Chanel
Chanel was with us for just a week, but we made sure she felt loved and that she was never alone. She was miserable most of the time; every movement caused the tumors on her legs to rub, so she spent most of her time cuddling. Chanel LOVED to snuggle and adored having her ears rubbed! Interestingly enough, she was not a fan of Sean Penn. Watching a movie he was in and whenever he was on the screen, she would bark like crazy. Silly girl! One night, she had a BK meal for dinner, the next night it was chicken strips; anything to make her happy and get her to eat. Fostering hospice dogs is so very hard, but what a privilege it is to be able to make their last days happy ones.

Carly
Carly, you were so loved. If only that were enough. We do not know what was done to you in such a short time, or if there was something genetic at play. We tried everything we could to help you adjust to a better life. But some dogs just can't face this world and overcome their emotional scars. Sweet Carly, you could not overcome that fear. You were just too damaged. The world was just too big and too scary for you. Could you be placed safely into a home? Could we find a home that could handle your aggression and biting? Could you be safely managed and not cause bodily harm to a human or another animal? After working with experienced dog owners, seeking help from behaviorists and vets and undergoing a training process, the answer to all those questions was 'no'. Run free and be happy at the Bridge, Carly. Play with the other dogs and have the time of your life that was denied you here on Earth.

Tsunami
Sixteen hours. You were loved fiercely for sixteen hours. Tsunami was pulled from a shelter in Tennessee on a Friday afternoon, by the collaboration of two caring Boxer Rescues (East Coast Boxer Rescue and Rejection Collection Boxer Rescue) and several very special volunteers. She was taken to her temporary foster home, with the intent for her to hang out for one week until being transported by a group of other volunteers from her Tennessee temp foster home to her Minnesota hospice foster home. But Tsunami had other plans. Tsunami’s health took a drastic turn for the worse overnight. She was brought to a vet Saturday morning, where it was decided the only humane thing to do was to help the sweet baby girl pass over the Rainbow Bridge. She was surrounded by love until her final breath. Run free, Tsunami! Know you were loved and you mattered.
