All dogs have a distinct personality. Jewel's was being reserved and self-contained. She slept a lot. She didn't jump or bark or chase a ball; she was a "senior" dog (on hospice, with cancer). When I first brought her into the house last November, I started to put her on my bed at night but it took a few weeks before she was comfortable enough to spend the night there...even then she curled up away from me. You could pet her but after a few minutes she would get up and move out of reach. It took more time before she would even lay near me at night. Finally one night she got up and curled up hard against me and fell asleep...and snored. She finally knew she was home. Jewel was so very loved right up to her last breath.

Joy Dog (formerly Hope) arrived in rescue just a short month before her passing. Even though she was younger in age, she had many medical obstacles that just could not be overcome. She had a massive tumor that had invaded her hip area and it was cancerous. The tumor was aggressive in nature and grew rapidly, eventually causing more tumors to be found. After soaking in all the love and attention she could, Joy let her foster family know that she was ready to be lifted up and free of her pain.
