Max
Max crossed the bridge July 28, 2023 RCBR recently found out about the passing of Max, a Pyper’s Promise dog. Pyper’s Promise is RCBR’s scholarship program to keep dogs in the home if financial hardship is the only reason the family is looking to surrender a beloved family pet. Max had a host of allergy and skin issues that the family could not afford as well as not being able to afford prescription food. RCBR was honored to keep Max at home with Stephen and Vicki. Max was an emotional support dog for Stephen. Our hearts go out to the family.

Mayhem
Mayhem has passed on to a better place. We were so blessed to have this amazing boy for 20 months. He loved everyone and wanted nothing more than to be petted, well….and fed. He just wanted to be with his people. Whether it be hanging out in the office during the week, watching tv at night or on the boat in the summer. He was sent off with a cheeseburger and a little bit of cheesecake, his favorites. In the end, DM was too much for him. He lost the use of his back legs and at 100#, it was very hard on him (in addition to having arthritis). Mayhem put up a good fight for a year. We are grateful we called Blue Skies Pet to send him off peacefully and stress free at home.

Mildred
MILDRED MARY ROBERTS 12 years PLUS 695 bonus days, passed away at home on Thursday, January 6, 2022 with her mom, Kathy, and kitty, Virgil, by her side. Mildred was given a second chance at life when she joined Rejection Collection Boxer Rescue on February 12, 2020. At that time Mildred was considered to be in Hospice care and was looking for a home and family who would help her be comfortable as she prepared to cross the rainbow bridge. Nobody expected for Mildred to live such a long and meaningful life beyond that time. April 30, 2020 Mildred was adopted by her new Mom, Kathy Roberts. Mildred quickly acclimated to her new home, family, and job. Mildred joined her mom at work most days during the shutdown to help maintain good mental health with the staff and clients. It did not take long for her personality to blossom. She was overly animated with all of her feelings and thoughts, so much that she was able to begin writing letters to her friends and fans on Facebook. Her letters are full of wonder, excitement, adventure, questions, and positive feedback. To honor her memory, Kathy is compiling the letters from Mildred for a book. Mildred had a variety of hobbies included going for walks and car rides, hanging with her BFF Gemma, vacationing at Aunt Regee’s home, working with her mom, posting on Facebook, and coordinating the entire neighborhood watch program for her street. Mildred was able to put a positive spin on most everything, even if she crabbed about it. She considered herself to be ‘fancy’ and an asset in most situations. A private family service will be held at a later date. Mildred will be laid to rest in the spring in a private family location. To honor Mildred, please do something nice for a pet. Spend some time with a fur friend in need, donate to a local shelter or rescue, or just spend some extra time cuddling a fur friend you love.

Miles
Here’s a little story about a boxer boy named Miles. Miles was a Mississippi man who traveled to MN, lived in a wonderful foster home, and quickly found his forever home. Actually it was more like he found his mission in life. Miles lacked indoor skills, since he was an outside dog used for stud services to begin with, and did not really understand human love and kindness. While at his foster home, he was introduced to those skills but gravitated more towards the dogs than the people. He was exceptionally trustworthy around other dogs. Miles needed another companion dog in his adoptive life to come out of his shell. Along came a family with a blind from birth boxer, Juneau, that lost his seeing eye companion, Jasper, a few months previous to Miles coming into rescue. Juneau was not the happy-go-lucky pup without his friend Jasper and the family knew it was important to find another seeing eye friend. Miles and Juneau met and it was a match made in heaven.  Each one needed the other and added eyesight and confidence and happiness and made the most wonderful pair. The bonding between dogs happened almost immediately. After less than two weeks in his new home, Miles wasn't feeling well Since he had already devoured a couple small sock at this foster home, we all felt certain he had one still left that might need to be removed. Fast forward after tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, and consults it was discovered that Miles had three cancerous tumors in his abdomen and colon. The cancer had spread and was in a very precarious area and surgery was ill-advised for his condition and his future. Miles was humanely euthanized the morning of July 11th with his foster family and forever family at his side.

Mimzee
Being a small dog (Dachshund) Mom for as long as I can remember, I was never looking to adopt a big dog. I happened to see Mimzee's picture on the Rescue site and immediately knew we had to adopt her. I was out of my comfort zone but somehow I knew she had to belong to our family. At the time, our dog family consisted of Maggie (Doxie) and Mario (Doxie) and with Mimzee I told my husband, "they will be the three musketeers - three "M's" - it was meant to be. When Jody brought her to our house for the first meet and greet, I sat on the floor with MiMi and she let me hug her. I felt so much love from her. I didn't know how long we would have with her, but we were committed to giving her the most fun end-of-life time she could imagine. We went on walks, she chased balls, went to the parks, she did zoomies in the yard, chased my Doxies and then slept next to us after all her activities. She loved car rides, would stick her head out the window and I would watch her smile while the wind flapped in her face. When I would get home from work she would "talk" to me, do circles and was so excited. She was the best Boxer I could have ever found, such a sweet girl with a gentle heart. It breaks our hearts that she is gone, but we got to be a part of her life for 18 months. I will love you forever Mimi, and we miss you every day. Run happy my girl.
